BASKETBALL 3-PT & KEY (LINES ONLY)

How much 3-pt line will fit on my driveway?

The most common question I get about line painting is whether the 3-pt line will fit. Use the guide below to help locate the sides and top.

Measuring the sides of the 3-pt line.

  1. Decide where you want to place your hoop.
  2. From that point, measure each way 19 feet 9 inches.

Measuring the top of the 3-pt line.

  1. Estimate where the front-face of your basketball pole will be.*
  2. Measure out the distance of your hoop's overhang.**
  3. This is where the front-face of your backboard would be.
  4. From that point, measure out 21 feet.***
* Front-face of the pole
From the pavement's edge, this can be anywhere from 9 inches to 3 feet. Most commonly, I install them from 9 inches to 2 feet from the edge.
** Overhang
The distance from the pole to the backboard. Smaller hoops will have overhangs of 2'–3'. Larger hoops will have overhangs of 3'–5'.
*** Why 21' instead of 19' 9"
The top of the 3-pt line is actually based on the center of the rim, which is 15" in front of the backboard. Using 21' eliminates a step.

What's the Painting Process?

Pressure Washing

For lines to stay crisp longer than six months, your pavement needs to be clean. With existing pavement, this will require pressure washing. If you are getting new concrete poured or getting your asphalt resealed, this is a perfect time to complete your line painting without the need for pressure washing.

If I'm also installing your basketball hoop, pressure washing would take place when I'm on-site for your first visit.

Painting

Once your pavement is dry, painting the key and 3-pt lines can begin. Although you may gently play basketball within one day, it's recommended to not drive on the lines for two to three days.

If I'm installing your hoop, painting would take place when I'm on-site for your second visit.

How much does pressure washing and line painting cost?

Pressure Washing

  • Pressure washing is 30¢/sq.ft. with a $450 minimum (not including travel time). You can choose to only wash the area being painted or your entire driveway and sidewalk.
  • If I'm already on-site for installing your basketball hoop, the travel costs below will not apply.

Line Painting

Phillip G., Harville, MO I had purchased a goal that I didn’t have the equipment or time to install myself. I did a lot of research to find the best company or person for the install. It turned out better then I thought it could have. Also, he painted the lane, free throw, and 3 point line. Worth every penny! Professional and great communication.

Arnold M., Florissant (St Louis), MO Jeremy was everything we expected and more. Five stars for his attention to detail, professionalism, knowledge, cleanliness, and all-out work ethic. I also had him paint my court as well. The lines are perfect and my home court looks amazing. He had all of the proper tools to get the job done in a timely manner. I was very impressed to see him pull up the old cement and cut the big boulder into smaller pieces to haul off. He took my old goal, all of the boxes, and the pallet that it came on. Patrick Rosa, Danville, KY I am very, very pleased with Precise Assemblies! I asked Precise Assemblies to install a Produnk Diamond model hoop for me. After I read the reviews of the various installers, I decided I wanted to go with him even though that meant paying extra for the travel time, as I was outside his regular service area. It was worth every penny. Jeremy is very professional, very meticulous, prompt, and responsive. His work is flawless. I absolutely recommend Jeremy for any assembly or installation work. He has tremendous experience and he puts great thought into the work he does. He is excellent! Original review & photos from Patrick on
